Health and Safety Update

This year, the HSE is due to consult on changes to the previous CDM Regulations 2007. The revised CDM Regulations are expected to highlight how key parts of CDM deals with smaller projects and building maintenance, which was previously not recognised. It is thought that the new guidance will remove the CDM Co-ordinator role on notifiable projects, instead replacing the design phase health and safety co-ordination with a ‘Principal Designer’.

The new guidance will replace the current CDM Approved Code of Practice and is not likely to come into effect until April 2015. It is unknown at this stage what the implications will be for Building Surveyors/Project Management, however, we shall monitor the requirements closely and take appropriate steps to ensure we maintain our high quality service offering for clients.
